“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” James 1:27 (NIV)
Rob Goff started attending Alliance Bible Church with his family when he was 10 years old. The church had a huge influence on his life and at the age of 18 he started as an intern in the Youth Ministry. He interned and served in the Youth Ministry for nearly four years prior to moving to Colorado. Alliance Bible Church is where Rob came to faith, was baptized, married and had his son dedicated; in short, Alliance is home for them.
Rob Goff is the Western Regional missionary with Fathers in the Field, a non-profit Christian equipping ministry that partners fatherless boys with mature Christian men who are passionate about God and His creation. Currently there are 12 million fatherless boys in America, the majority of them carrying deep, damaging wounds of abandonment. Fathers in the Field seeks to help churches reach these boys with the Gospel, while at the same time helping them provide discipleship and mentoring opportunities for their men.
Rob has been involved in youth and young adult ministry since 1992, both as a volunteer and in a paid pastoral role. During this time he has encountered firsthand the devastation that fatherlessness has on boys and young men. Conversely he has seen many of these same boys’ lives healed by the Gospel as modeled by godly Christian men. These men were willing to invest their time to share the Gospel in word and deed, knowing that they were modeling the love of our Savior to those in need. Men want to follow the command of Christ to go and make disciples, but often are hindered in doing so because they feel unequipped or unprepared. It is not that our Churches don’t train our men, but often we fail to link their gifts and passions to ministry in ways that make them feel confident.
The desire to reach out to fatherless boys and give men an opportunity to use the gifts God has given them to disciple and raise up other men is what drew Rob to Fathers in the Field.
